Forbes Street Music Club Backyarder - The Return of David P. Smith & The Ape Shit Army * plus * Haven

The apes are restless and restless apes have been shown to be entertaining. We are looking forward to getting some yah yahs out at this show and reconnecting with friends and music fans in the intimate confines of the Forbes Street Music Club backyard. Bring your own refreshments and snacks, we won’t be serving…but we will have chairs! Opening the show will be the debut of a Haven, a new project with David, Jeanne Tolmie, and Rachelle Reath. This is going to be beautiful afternoon.

All proceeds to The Indian Residential School Survivors Society.

There is a capacity of 30 and in this Covid era we need to know who and how many people are attending.

Please purchase your ticket in advance by e-transferring $25 to davidpsmithmusic@gmail.com

Birdsong presents David P. Smith and Dan Weisenberger

Pared down to the essentials, Dan Weisenberger and David P. Smith explore their respective songbooks and will likely collaborate on a few numbers too. Dan is a masterful guitar player and an encyclopaedia of songs, his own gems, plus a trove of country, folk, blues, rock, and pretty much you name it. David P. Smith is as unpredictable as a cornered wolverine with an accordion grasped in its paws. He will likely scratch the piano with his claws as well.

DAVID P. SMITH TRIO Live @ The Groove Island Kitchen

Man I love travelling to Mayne Island and playing at the Groove. It’s such a fun place, the audience loves music, the food is good, the beer is good, and Andrew and Sherrie are amazing hosts. I am really stoked to be playing there in a trio format with Jody Johnson on the bass and Rad Juli on the drums. Residents of Mayne….please join us. Non-residents of Mayne, use this as your reason to visit this beautiful island and The Groove Island Kitchen

Looking forward to returning to the Birdsong on Gabriola Island for an intimate house show, this time in a trio format with Jody Johnson on bass and Rad Juli on drums. More accordion, less guitar. Join us at Northern Quarter for our first two set show in a looooong time. I think we may pull some C&W out for the first set before things go apeshit in the second set. We’ll be joined by The Quitters singing some sweet harmony vocals. Great room, great food and drinks, come hang out with us.

Cover is $10 at the door, or if you want to ensure yourself a good table reservations are recommended!

David P. Smith and The Ape Shit Army

Victoria outsider songwriter-accordionist David P. Smith deconstructs/reconstructs blues and roots with unique musical primitivism and sad, savage, slapstick, surreal songs. Humour and despair grapple on a desolate cerebral plain. Souped up and delivered hot through a tube-driven amp, Smith's infectious, rhythm-driven accordion playing owes a debt to R&B and Cajun music.

Smith’s killer band, The Ape Shit Army, serves up a sonic blues-roots stew with a rock solid backbone courtesy of  Jody Johnson (bass) and Rad Juli (drums), spiced with Dan Weisenberger’s tasty guitar work.

David P. Smith & The Ape Shit Army are:
David P. Smith - vocals/accordion
